  • Alaska is the biggest state in the United States. It is twice as big as the second biggest state, Texas. It is also larger than the combined area of the 22 smallest U.S. states. Three Californias or 12 New York states, or 470 Rhode Island states can fit in Alaska. If it were a country, Alaska would be world's 20th largest country in the world
  • Alaska is home to North America's highest peak, Denali (formerly known as Mount McKinley) whose 20,320-foot crown dominates the Alaska Range.
  • Alaska is the only state in the Unites States to have coastlines on three different seas (Arctic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea)
  • Alaska has a longer coastline than all the other U.S. states combined. Alaska has 6,640 miles of coastline and, including islands, has 33,904 miles of shoreline.
  • Alaska's capital Juneau is the only U.S. state capital to share border with a foreign nation. It is bordered on the east by Canada.
  • Alaska is the only state name that can be typed using just one row of keys on the standard computer keyboard
  • Alaska is the only state that does not collect state sales tax or levy an individual state income tax
  • About 52 percent of Alaskans are men – the highest percentage of any state.
  • At their closest points, Alaska and Russia are only 3 miles apart.
